"This mess was ruining his life, reaching out and sucking all the goodness out of everything he had."

Chapter Five - Summary: Ray recovers in the hospital, and other secrets come to light.

"Ray sat back, and went cold. "You realise what you just told me, don't you?"

"What?"

"You just told me that the FBI have been listening in on my family. Spying on my house."

Chapter Six - Summary:
The pressure continues to mount.

"You people coming to the school now?" Ray's voice was clipped as he squared off against Agent Cash. "That's a new low, even for you."

Summary: Ray confronts his demons at the church, and entertains guests:

"If the Iguanas find out," Ray said, "they'll torture me. They'll torture me till I tell them everything, and then they'll bury me in the desert where nobody will ever find me. It'll take years to have me declared legally dead, and in the meantime Ma will be sitting in that house, every day, thinking maybe I'm alive out there somewhere, never knowing. That's the best case scenario. Worst case? They figure out who my family are and go after them. They'll spend the rest of their life in witness protection. Ma wouldn't live to see my pension."

Summary: The FBI have approached Ray to go undercover with the mob, and Ray has said 'no.' But it turns out that there is a skeleton in the Vecchio family closet. What is the secret which Ray can't allow to be revealed, and how do the FBI use it to turn him into the Bookman?

"At that moment, Ray had realised that he’d spent his whole life feeling inadequate, trying to live up to a man who really, he owed nothing to. A man with no loyalty, no love...

If what the FBI said was true, the man had never had a shred of loyalty, or decency at all."

Like most dS fans I've always wanted to know more about what happened to Ray Vecchio while Benny was away in Canada to persuade him to take the undercover gig, and what subsequently occurred in Vegas. This series looks to address that.

Perfect Ten: Editor's Cut
author: bghost
fandom: due South
character: Benton Fraser/Ray Kowalski
Rating: sex, violence, and vile, vile language. The vile language is mainly in Chinese, but just so you know... There are at least a billion people out there who could be offended. To whom I also apologise for my rubbish keyboard not allowing me to get the tones right. No insult to anyone's actual ancestors is implied, or should be inferred.
Word Count: 3228

Notes: This is the 'editor's cut' of Perfect Ten, posted on the compulsively inspirational ds_snippets. It's over ten times as long, and a thousand times filthier. (You have been warned.) Don't blame me, it's not my fault that Fraser can't hold his beer.

Oh yes, and congratulations to Wu Minxia! You rock, in any language.

(A salutory tale, which warns of the evils of alchohol, as illustrated by rampaging elephants, a blood bath, and an alternative Chinese lexicon.)

This is what happens when I sit up late at night chatting about wolves, and librarians, and fairy tales, and so on! After going through a rather emotional stage of my fic writing... THIS happened. (Warnings for... how can I put this... werewolf smut.) Blame Granny Fraser for being a werewolf librarian who decided to walk around my head for a night. Or Ride, depending...
